Before the riots at New York City’s Stonewall Inn in 1969 and at the Compton’s Cafeteria at Turk Street in San Francisco three years prior, San Francisco’s LGBT community experienced a pivotal moment in which they had to fight for their rights in the face of police harassment and intimidation.

SFUSD’s LGBTQ+ Student Services program is the oldest program of its kind in the world. It has been innovating and setting the standard for whole student support for more than 35 years! Responsibility for the many district-wide initiatives required to support San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ students comes down to one individual.

Per Sia and Ali R. Blake have collaborated on a new comic book called “Socrates and Me” which acts as a love letter to Drag Story Hour and queer culture, and offers a peek behind the scenes of one of the most important queer cultural movements of our time.
