The Greek Theatre Has a Dope Summer/Fall Lineup!

I’m not sure if you’ve been paying attention, but the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley has been having an incredible season! So far this summer they’ve had such stellar shows as Earth, Wind & Fire, Kraftwerk, Charley Crockett, and Bloc Party, just to name a few. But they still have a shit ton more fantastic concerts for the rest of the season.
Just check out this calendar:

Seriously dope, right? Well here are some shows that I’m looking forward to over the next few months:

Father John Misty – 7/26
Josh Tillman, aka Father John Misty, will be bringing his soulful indie-folkrock crooning to the Greek on July 26th. He’s on tour in support of his sixth studio album Mahashmashana. And he’s bringing Lucinda Williams and Hamilton Leithauser as his openers. This will be a fantastic show.

Counting Crows – 8/13
Counting Crows is one of my favorite bands and I see them pretty much every time they come through the Bay Area. They always put on a brilliant live show and the Greek is such a perfect place to see them. This time they are on tour with The Gaslight Anthem.

Lucy Dacus – 8/16
Three-time GRAMMY® award winner Lucy Dacus is a musician, performer, storyteller, and widely regarded as “one of the best songwriters of her generation” (Rolling Stone). She’s coming through town on her Forever Is A Feeling Tour with Jay Som as support.

My Morning Jacket – 8/22
For more than 25 years, My Morning Jacket have achieved an incredibly rare feat in the world of rock ‘n’ roll – upholding a long-established cultural legacy while sustaining all the curiosity and creative hunger of their very earliest days. And now they are bringing that magic to Berkeley!

Mt. Joy – 8/23
As NPR says, “Mt. Joy’s songs unfold like good political speeches: They amble and converse and pulsate fervently until it’s time to get the crowd chanting along.” You can find out for yourself when they play at the Greek in August!

Pixies – 8/28
Without the Pixies, there would be no indie rock. The song “Hey” alone probably launched a million band. And now is your chance to get inspired to launch your own band after seeing them live. To top things off they have Spoon and Fazerdaze opening up for them. You won’t wanna miss this show.

The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse – 9/7
I saw the bands play together at the Greek Theatre over 20 years ago when they were on the Unlimited Sunshine Tour with Cake, De La Soul, and Kinky. It was brilliant! So I’m stoked that these two legendary bands are touring together again. If you’ve never seen The Flaming Lips live before, you are in for a treat!

Bomba Estéreo + Rawayana – 9/12
For the past couple of years, Bomba Estéreo vocalist Liliana ‘Li’ Saumet knew that she wanted to collaborate with Rawayana. As it turns out, the initial collaboration turned into a full album, an international tour, and a brand new supergroup named Astropical. You’re gonna get a magnificent earful of it when you see them live!

Rilo Kiley – 10/16
After a long absence, Rilo Kiley are back, with arms outstretched. Who doesn’t love a reunion tour? I really hope they play “Does He Love You?” That twist at the end gets me every time. Find out for yourself when they play the Greek with Waxahatchee in October.
