Some Summer Grants for SF & Bay Area Artists

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I realize it ain’t currently grant writin’ season, but there are still plenty of hungry artists out there, so we thought y’all should know about funding opportunities available in August! If you’re not an artist yourself, go ahead and send this to a local artist you know!

The Art Bae Award In Partnership with Safety Net Fund
Launching Summer 2025, the Art Bae Award provides a “finishing grnt” of $3,000 each to six artists who are nearing completion of an ambitious project—whether an exhibition, publication, performance, or hybrid work that defies category. This award is designed for artists who need one final boost. The project must have a confirmed venue or outlet, and be ready to go—with just a bit more support.
Applications Due: August 15, 2025

The SHACK15 Art Prize
Launching Summer 2025, the SHACK15 Art Prize is a bold new initiative rooted in the belief that supporting artists is a civic act. Seven artists fellows will each receive $20,000 to create new work about life in the Bay Area—what it is, and what it can become. Their projects will culminate in a group exhibition during SF Art Week 2026 with more additional awards. More than a grant, this is a call to reimagine what a city can be when artists are centered in public life.
Applications Due: August 31st

San Francisco Fire Department Division of Training: Request for Qualifications
The San Francisco Arts Commission invites artists and artist teams residing in the United States or represented by a US based gallery to submit qualifications for the San Francisco Fire Department Division of Training. The art opportunity calls for a cohesive, integrated design that includes two components: a sculpture or grouping of sculptures located in the project’s mid-block focus area along Carroll Avenue, and approximately 120 linear feet of sculptural or two-dimensional artwork integrated into wall niches within the concrete bioretention planter walls fronting the facility.

Deadline to submit application: August 8, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PDT
