Brooklyn Pie Contest!

Hey what’s better than eating pie? Two answers: 1. eating lots of pie and 2. eating pie to raise money for a good cause. BK Farmyards is a group that turns abandoned areas in NYC into usable farmland. Saturday, they’re the charity benefiting from Megan Paska’s annual Brooklyn Pie Contest. Yes, Saturday is a few days away, but I wanted to give y’all time to scower your brains, dig through cookbooks, or call your mom to find a pie recipe so delicious Strawberry Shortcake would stab people with a fork for seconds. To enter, make a pie that has homemade crust and is not pizza, and bring a modestly sized place card with a description of the pie ONLY written on it. If you just want to eat pie, start conditioning your stomach now and scrape up the entry fee. For $5, you can sample all the pies, and you get a score card to vote for your favorite pie.

This is great. I had no idea this thing even existed. I just had a sour cream apple crumb pie from Little Pie Co. on Greenwich and it was amazing. I’m definitely gonna have to check this out!
Thank you so much for the coverage of the event! I am indeed conditioning my stomach for rabbit pie, bourbon sweet potato pie and more. One clarification: Megan Paska organizes the event each year for a different cause. We are thrilled that she has chosen BK Farmyards this year! Megan is a backyard chicken farmer and an urban beekeeper to boot! Check her out on twitter @BKHomesteader
