I just got this message from one of the employees of 50 Mason Social House
Broke-Ass Stuart,
I work at 50 Mason Social House in the TL. I’ve seen you there a few times before. Just wanted to reach out and let you know that we will be shutting our doors for good this Sunday. It happened unexpectedly. It is really sad to see San Francisco lose another Live music venue. I know it is short notice, but if you could please help spread the word.
This on the heels of the news that Virachoca is shutting down does not bode well for quirky underground live music in San Francisco. We will keep you updated as we learn more.
What’s your favorite memory from 50 Mason? Tell us in the comments.

While this is terrible, I doesn’t seem all that unexpected. I live next door at 30 mason and every day and night walking home (regardless of the time) there never seems to be a sufficient crowd in there for it to survive. It’s sad but its still a business, and its our fault. If you want to lament the death of small/local live music industry you should also patron these places to support them, or this will keep happening.
best memories 1) Ronkat’s Katdelic ACOUSTIC 2) Pamela Gerstein’s (Ms. BISS) Birthday Party!! So Sad/sorry to see 50 go.
Places like this are the beating heart of SF, and looking back at my time singing at 50 Mason, we all knew from the moment we walked in that this was a rare gem of a venue.
Here is a little peek into this intimate music venue that some of the best bands and musicians in SF will cry for once it’s gone: https://vimeo.com/106080533
50 Mason we local SF musicians love you & will miss you.
Thank you for the greatness,

What sad news! With my band ‘Freewheelers Cello Band’ I played there, with Bonnie Hofkin on bluesharp as guest. Ed Ivey is a really nice guy, who lived in Amsterdam, and played with the Rhythm Pigs before starting the Social House. I guess there is not so much social about SF of today.
