Simple Pleasures at Wright’s Popcorn and Nut Co.

Some weeks back, I mentioned Wright’s Pink Popcorn in a post I wrote about the Stow Lake Boathouse.
Wright’s Pink Popcorn is one of those items one finds on dusty corner grocery shelves and at sports concessionaires that is a certain class of ancient snack on par with the likes of spice drops, circus peanuts and liquorice allsorts. Incandescently dyed and oddly beckoning in their vibrancy they call to you with their unnatural ways, confusing the senses.
In the case of Wright’s the shelf life seems to be a problem. Like Cracker Jack, I can’t recall a time that I had a piece and it wasn’t stale. Popcorn isn’t meant to be kept for a long time, its just sort of the nature of the beast.
Well, thank-fully, like sourdough and cults, Wright’s is manufactured right here in the city. Having been pressed out since their neighbour was Seals Stadium, the little bars are sold on site right on Potrero Hill. Freshly made, the treat might actually taste like something besides packing material. Different flavours too, if the hue is just too much to bear.
So if you just have that itch to scratch, or you’ve decided to hawk peanuts in Dolores, pop over to Wright’s and pay them a call.

This brings back memories. I used to eat this as a kid whenever I went to Stow Lake. I always had it stale (I thought it was supposed to be that way) and I like it like that.
Ha! I know! I honestly can’t imagine it any other way.
Still one of the best popcorn treats and brings back a lot of good memories.
What is hard to find is the caramel corn.
My grandma would buy me this on Fridays as a treat at the end of the school week 🙂 I love this stuff. Good memories and its tasty.
